On March 25, 2026, Valleyview RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired at a residence in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Alta. Two adult males fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and were subsequently arrested at a residence in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. Later that day, a search warrant was executed in relation to the shooting, with assistance from Western Alberta District General Investigation Section, and the following were seized:
- Firearms;
- Prohibited weapons;
- Ammunition;
- 110 grams of Cocaine;
- 51 grams of Methamphetamine; and
- 269 grams of cutting agent.
As a result of the investigation, two male residents of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation were arrested:
- Darcy Kappo (18) was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2);
- Reckless discharge of a firearm;
- Possession of property obtained by crime;
- Assault; and
- Mischief.
- Darcy Chalifoux (26) was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2);
- Forcible confinement (x2);
- Assault;
- Reckless discharge of a firearm; and
- Possession of property obtained by crime.
Kappo and Chalifoux were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Valleyview, with Kappo appearing on April 13, 2026, and Chalifoux appearing on April 16, 2026.
